Indications that you could have a mildew problem:

Some building materials for example dry walls that are covered with vinyl wallpaper or wood panelling, could act as vapour barriers and trap moisture beneath their surfaces and thereby providing a dampish atmosphere where mildew will grow. You will suspect hidden mildew if a building smells stale, however you cannot see the source, or if you recognize there has been water damage and occupants of the building report various respiratory health issues. Checking for hidden mildew issues is also tough and needs caution where the investigation involves potential sites of heavy mildew growth.

Once materials become wet, mildew will begin to grow inside twenty four to forty eight hours.
